MY HUSBAND BROUGHT HIS PREGNANT MISTRESS TO MY RECOVERY ROOM AND TRIED TO TAKE MY NEWBORN—THEN THE CURTAIN MOVED

The first thing Nora Bennett felt after delivery was relief.

Not because the pain was over.

Her body was still shaking from the emergency delivery, and every breath seemed to scrape against her ribs.

Her arms felt heavy, her throat was dry, and the hospital room smelled faintly of antiseptic and warm blankets.

But her son was alive.

That was all that mattered.

A nurse had placed the tiny newborn beside her, wrapped in a pale blue blanket.

Nora traced one trembling finger across his miniature hand and watched his fingers curl around hers.

‘You’re safe now, Oliver,’ she whispered.

‘I’ve got you.’

For several precious minutes, the world became small enough to fit inside that bed.

There was only the soft hiss of oxygen, the quiet beeping of a monitor, and the miracle of her son’s breathing.

Then the door slammed open.

Her husband, Damian Cole, strode into the recovery room.

Behind him walked Vanessa Hart, the woman he had repeatedly described as nothing more than his marketing coordinator.

Vanessa was six months pregnant.

She wore a fitted cream dress that emphasized her belly, and her carefully arranged hair fell over one shoulder.

When her eyes met Nora’s, a small, satisfied smile appeared on her face.

Nora had suspected the affair for months.

Late-night meetings, unexplained hotel charges, messages that disappeared whenever she entered the room—every clue had pointed toward the truth.

Still, suspicion was different from seeing the other woman standing beside her husband while Nora lay in a hospital bed, barely able to lift her head.

‘Damian?’ Nora whispered.

He didn’t answer her.

He walked straight to the bassinet.

‘There he is,’ he said, looking down at the newborn.

‘My son.’

Nora’s fingers tightened around the blanket.

‘Don’t do this here.’

Vanessa gave a soft laugh.

‘Where else should he do it? This is where the product was delivered.’

For a moment, Nora couldn’t understand the words.

Then their meaning settled over her, turning her stomach.

Damian reached into the bassinet and lifted Oliver with careless impatience.

The sudden movement startled the baby, who began to cry.

‘Give him back,’ Nora said.

Damian turned toward Vanessa.

‘You said you were nervous about handling a newborn.

Here.

Consider this practice.’

He placed Oliver in her arms.

Nora tried to sit up, but pain tore through her abdomen.

She grabbed the bedrail, struggling to move faster than her exhausted body would allow.

‘No! Damian, stop! Give me my baby!’

Vanessa stepped closer.

When Nora reached for Oliver, Vanessa shoved her shoulder, forcing her back against the pillows.

Her other hand pressed briefly against Nora’s throat.

Nora gasped.

The room seemed to tilt around her.

Oliver wailed louder, his tiny face reddening as he cried.

Nora reached toward him, unable to get out of bed, while Damian stood beside Vanessa with the detached expression of a man discussing a business arrangement.

‘I’ll take care of you,’ he said.

‘I’ve already arranged an apartment and a monthly stipend.

You won’t need to worry about money.

But Oliver stays with me.’

Nora stared at him in disbelief.

‘You’re trying to take my newborn away from me ten minutes after I gave birth.’

‘Oliver needs stability,’ Damian replied.

‘He needs to be raised by people who know how to win.’

Vanessa rocked the
